Info sull'evento

The chain takes its name from Mount Sibilla (2,173 m), on the top of which a cave (Grotta della Sibilla) opened up until the end of the last century, now occluded, which tradition has it as the home of the Apennine Sibyl.

The Sibillini Mountains are the fourth highest mountain massif in the continental Apennines (after Gran Sasso, Maiella and Velino-Sirente), located in the Umbro-Marchigiano Apennines, along the primary watershed of the Central Apennines, between the Marche and Umbria, between the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata, Perugia, within which the homonymous National Park of the Sibillini Mountains is established.

With a length from north to south of about 40 km, consisting mainly of limestone rocks , formed on the bottoms of warm seas, they have numerous peaks that exceed 2,000 m in altitude, such as the largest of the group, Mount Carrier (2,476 m asl) , Pizzo della Regina (or Monte Priora), Monte Bove and Monte Sibilla.
